KangaRoof installs the Timberline Solar roofing system by GAF Energy, the first nailable solar shingle. It goes on with standard roofing tools and techniques, by the same crew that installs the rest of your roof, so a roof replacement and a solar installation become one project handled by one contractor. We are a GAF Master Elite contractor based in Round Rock, serving Austin and Central Texas.
Traditional solar panels are mounted on racks above a finished roof, usually by a separate solar crew. Timberline Solar shingles are the roof. They nail down like asphalt shingles, sit flush with the rest of the roof, and produce electricity while doing the job a roof does: shedding water and protecting the house. Because the solar shingles are part of the roofing system, they carry GAF's roofing pedigree rather than being an add-on bolted through it.
If your roof is in good condition and you are not replacing it, conventional panels on top of the existing roof are usually the better fit. We will tell you that plainly during the inspection. Our guide to solar shingles versus solar panels walks through the tradeoffs.
Central Texas hail is the first question homeowners ask about any roof, solar included. We inspect solar shingle roofs the same way we inspect any roof after a storm, document damage with photos, and handle the insurance claim conversation with you. Our Central Texas hail history shows what Williamson and Travis County roofs have taken since 2015.
